  • Winter has come!

This pretty much tells it: My thermometer is telling me that it is 1º below zero! It is warm inside my home, but I still am feeling a bit of that chill. Time to fix a hot cup of tea, and then I'll come back for a brief chat with you ... ahhh... that's better. A cup of chai!

I've been helping my mom get things transferred to a new email service. It takes time to learn new things, and new ways of dealing with email is one example. I am so impressed by her willingness to continue to learn! She puts up the "bar" ... things to accomplish when (if) I get to be 90!

Here is a picture of Mom in a new sweater that she got for Christmas from my younger sister and her husband.  We went out to eat at Red Lobster the other day, and have some pictures of that delightful meal, too.    2015-01-07IMG_0047

Here's an appropriate quote to end to this post:  "As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night." (Genesis 8:22, NLT)

And a final p.s. - It is now -3º !! Time to get under my electric blanket!

  • I sure wish my electric blanket had not died last year. :-( I keep trying to find a replacement but can't find one I like for the price I want.
I am opposite of your mom... I do keep wanting to learn... but not the new technology. I like learning, but I like the old ways... the simpler, more hands on ways... not the sedentary, sitting in front of a screen all day ways. My body hurts from not enough movement.
Here's hoping you keep warm... I just saw my lights flicker. We're not set up down here to handle the extreme cold... looks like we're having brown outs.
    Sleep well and warm. :-)

    • Like reading books, etc? We enjoy reading books, too. Now that she has limited vision, she can read better what is on a computer monitor than she can a book.
So I read to her daily from various books - for pleasure, growth, learning, etc.
Hope you are staying warm, and don't continue having the brownouts!

  • Bravo, Carolyn, for your mother that stay young ( like your father )
About the weather it is the same here . Through the window I dee a cold rain , the road shining of wetness and I am shivering even if Inside the thermometer tells me me , it is warm into the home . It is not quite I feel ! :)
    Love

    • I know what you mean about the shivering even though it is warm inside the house.
When it is cold and rainy, it makes me want to just cover up with a blanket, have
some warm drink close at hand, and either read, do stuff on computer, or .... whatever. ;-)

  • I am with you! The high today is going to be 12 degrees - right now it is 0. We have the covers piled on the bed - 4 layers and it is cozy warm. Which makes getting out of bed a mental and physical challenge. The floor is so COLD! I'm looking forward to spring...

  • slept in this morning and when I got up, it was still at -6º ~ the wind chill has to be brutal! stay warm, my friend ~

    • Yea for sleeping in ... We are praying for those who have to be out in this nasty weather -- pizza delivery like our one son, mailmen, and others. Hope you stay nice and cozy warm!!

  • Hooray for your mom! Thanks for that verse. A reassurance that winter will not last forever. Spring WILL come. Smile.

  • I wish my Mom would try the computer, it wouldn't be so bad if she weren't 1200 miles away, I try telling her how much we could communicate if she would :( I love the verse too!

    • Maybe someday she will let you tutor her when she sees all you can do on the computer.
I know several older ladies in my church (in their 80's) who just say that they don't
want to learn or use a computer. I'm glad that Mom wanted to use the computer. She is
able to keep up with her "kids" and grandkids... plus people world-wide, too. :-)
That verse is a good reminder that we won't have to endure our winter forever! :-)

  • HUGS for a Happy Whee-kend!!! :-D
