  • And another week ...

    Thank you dear friends for your thoughts, concerns, and prayers.  We are definitely improving, but still are taking medicines to help us win over the bronchitis we've been fighting for the past (Mom - 3, Me-2)  weeks.  Now on to more pleasant things!      We definitely are seeing signs of spring!  Warmer weather, much more greenery - trees,  grass, shrubs ... lots more colorful flowers, and today I walked out onto my front porch and looked up to see the birds nest that had been atop of our pipe going up to the roof has a whole family of baby birds in it! (I'm sorry that I couldn't take a better picture of the family for you to see them really well.)  2014-05-22

    During National Poetry Month  (APRIL), there were many things that happened that I wanted to blog about, but just didn't have time.  My birthday was on April 14th, & while it wasn't a "BIG" birthday, my family really went BIG with the gifts! This was the first birthday that Mom was with us, and so I'm sure that was part of her "BIG" gifts.  From Mom came two BIG gifts.  One of the gifts is a brand new refrigerator with French-doors, with a large freezer under the fridge. (This has helped since there are five adults living in our home!)  :-)  2014-05-01A second gift from Mom was just planted in the past two weeks (since I've been sick). Our neighbor had to wait for some decent weather to plant it, and she did a beautiful job! It is seen in the next photo. It will one day be a flaming  red bush!  The BIG gift from my husband was planned and then ordered  last month; then for the past 3 days we

     have been watching the progress of the gift being built around the front porch. So ... here is a collage with the "before" & "after" pictures. It really changes the way our home looks!  Our new friend/helper/ house cleaner hadn't been to our home since we had been sick ... and actually drove past us!  Our blue goose had to move to the other side of the porch, but she at least helps folks to find our home ... how many people have a blue goose, after all? ;-)  Hope-fully we'll have a better picture of the whole front of the house with the porch addition once we have planted flowers & set other items like chairs on the porch.

    Did anyone else have some nasty thunderstorms, heavy rain, hail, and flash flooding last night? The last picture is what I viewed from inside my house. As I looked out the front door, I saw a new look ... plus hail!

  • Aw, I love how the house looks with the porch added. I had a home I wanted to do that with, but I ended up moving to a larger home anyway... and one that already had a front porch and back deck. Now I am relocated into an apartment. Part of me wouldn't mind if I could go back to that little house.
    I notice that your goose migrated to the other side of the porch. ;-)

    When I saw the swallows they had flown by and up to the second story roof so I couldn't see their backs, but I could see the red throat and the split tails as they were sitting on the roof suspiciously observing me, as I was joyously observing them. :-) I was surprised, when I came home and looked them up online, to see that they are blue colored. That must be why I see all the flashes of blue in my woods... it's not just the bluebirds. :-)

    Our weather reports last night called for possible thunderstorms but we didn't get any. Wow, you had hail.

    • Hi Lynn ... My goodness, I haven't been on Xanga or much of anything else apparently.
      I must remedy this now! Thank you for your comments about the porch. I was so surprised
      when my Mike came up with such a pleasant idea for my birthday. I'm finally feeling better,
      and hoping to be able to get out and enjoy it more! You're very observant too...about my blue goose! ;-)
      Your apartment is right near the woods! Sounds like a very lovely place to be located!
      We have had some nice weather since that night ... though we still get a hard rain every now and then. In
      fact, we're supposed to be getting another hard rain tonight.

  • Oh my gosh! :-) I love your blue goose! :-) Guess what? I have a collection of a few geese...even a goose basket and goose dishes! A friend got me started on geese years ago. But, I don't have room for anymore now, so I don't buy them.

    Your home and your porch look so welcoming! :-)

    I continue to pray for you and your Mom. The respiratory stuff that has been going around has sure been hanging on a long time with everyone. :-(

    Yay on the baby birds and the new 'frig' the beautiful plants and grass and Spring time! :-)

    • I just came over to see that you'd commented (a second time, actually)... & realized that I hadn't been on Xanga for awhile, and didn't realize that I had so many comments, and that I'd not responded to anyone! I am finally starting to feel like I'm better! I am definitely on the mend ... and Mom is too. Thank you so very much for your prayers for Mom and for me!! ♥ ♥
      I don't collect geese, but for years I'd wanted a goose to dress & put on my porch. Before I had clothes for her though, I decided I wanted to have a goose that was different from everyone else's... so, I painted her blue! :-) I'm glad that my home & porch look welcoming, because that's how I want them to be! :-D
      YAY for my wonderful friend with whom we get to share a name ... AND lots of :-) :-) AND ♥ ♥ AND HUGS AND prayers, too! :-)

  • A new frig And a new porch. Wow! I like your blue goose. I planted a red faming bush last summer behind our house. It's still a baby, but survived the winter just fine.

    • You'll have to let me know how long it takes for your bush to begin flaming. Mine is just a baby too, so the fact that yours made it through the winter is encouraging to me! :-)

  • wow the birds wanted to be in a new porch. LOL we are glad those birds don't last all year and you can wash the nest away when the litte ones fly away.

    yes you have to get a gnome they are so cute.

    • True about birds... and yes, those gnomes are cute! I'm definitely going to find one that belongs with some of my other little yard friends. :-)

  • Good Morning, Carolyn. I have not had birds build a nest on our house in a long time--some are using our bushes.

    • I believe that the nest has robins, once I saw the father bird close-up.
      As the birds get bigger, I am hoping to see more of them.

  • RYC: Yes Carolyn some people ask me how I can resist under the hot sun in wearing those clothes . They forget woolen clothes are insulating and avoid the brusque change of temperature of the body! :-) :)

    • I actually didn't know that about woolen clothing, because I'm allergic to the wool, & just had never heard that woolen clothes insulate like that.

  • I hope you get total relief from your bronchitis soon. Hope the physicians have taken some xrays to rule out pneumonitis and the like.
    We didn't have the major storms last night but have had several this past week.

    • Thank you for the concerns, Zakiah. I finally seem to be at the place where I'm
      "coming around the bend" with this URI. Mom also has been improving, but still has
      some of the congestion at times and still needs extra sleep. Guess that's what being almost
      90 will do for a person! Over all we seem to be doing much better though.

  • I once had bronchitis on ansd off for six months. Young and tough then, I didn't take it seriously enough.
