  • Serene Sunday

Today we stayed home from church, and let the snow fall where it may!  As the snowflakes fall - some big, some small - some quickly, some floating, others bouncing ... they are pristine in their beauty!  There is serenity in satisfaction.

My new friend Val is a very creative lady and writes lots of poetry. She has encouraged me to write more, and so I thought I would try something new from this page of poetry types.   Since I had already posted an acrostic, and then a blank verse, I decided to continue down the  first column of types of poems.

Today's poem that I wrote is an echo verse poem.  Here is the definition taken from that page:  "An Echo Verse is when the last word or syllable in a line is repeated or echoed underneath to form a rhyming line, normally ending as the last line being the title to the poem."

    Quietness can be peaceable.

    Echo: Able.

    It can bring pleasure,

    Echo: Sure!

    Or hide thoughts painful.

    Echo: Full.

    Or awkwardness induce.

    Echo: Deuce!

    Or pregnant with creative thought,

    Echo: Ought,

    There is action resulting.

    Echo: TING!

    Then back to repose.

    Echo: Pose.

Every night in recent years, my husband and I  have had a tradition of  a snack time together ... usually while watching a T.V. show together in the living room.   Sometimes fruit, a baked item,  an ice cream treat, a fruit smoothie,  popcorn, etc. was the choice.  Probably ice cream or a fruit smoothie  became the most common snack.  Then when Mom came to live with us this past September,  it pretty much           became "Carolyn's Ice Cream Shoppe!"  Below are some of the various ways that ice cream has been served in the past week.

    PHOTO #30 - February 8

My daughter-in-law posted these (& others) pictures of our son and their daughter Tristen, dressed up for an 80's-themed Daddy-Daughter-Dance which is an annual occurrence at her school This is her fourth, but only her second with her Daddy.  Our son Shaun missed the first two due to being deployed in Kuwait and Afghanistan, so Tristen's BFF's dad took both of them to the dance. That was such a special ministry that he provided to the family! However, Tristen (& her Dad) are delighted and overjoyed to be able to go to the school dances together now!

Hope everyone is doing well!  I end with this little note of encouragement that goes along with my blogs theme for the day.

  • I got to meet Val and Saint Vi when they were driving through town. Love meeting my Xanga friends. I like your poem, and the ice cream looks delicious. The snow finished up here so we wont to church. Guess it moved on to your area.

    • Who is Saint Vi (is that her mom)? I too enjoy meeting my Xanga friends ... like you!
I'm hoping for no snow next weekend! Thanks for your encouragement. I do enjoy reading
and writing poetry. If you ever come to "Carolyn's Ice Cream Shoppe" I will serve you
ice cream sundaes or shakes to order! (Or a fruit smoothie!)

  • Went, not wont.

  • The photo of your grand daughter made me laugh! The 80s were a crazy time! I have not tried the echo poem - I may have to give it a whirl someday!
To answer your question - saintvi.xanga.com is a friend of mine who lives not too far from me. She was the first xangan I met in person and she is a wonderful friend. I have to say I love xanga for no other reason but that I was able to meet her. Through her I've met lots of other xangans and they have all been good people (and very fun to be around)! You should check out her site...

    • I'm glad it made you laugh. It's funny, but I really don't remember much about the 80's at all. Maybe I was just too busy with teaching and being a mom!
I visited saintvi's site, and enjoyed both her pictures and her game (which I failed miserably)! I have met many folks on Xanga ... several of them in person, and I must say that some of my favorite folk are Xanga contacts!

  • great poem Carolyn. I am so glad you have started writing them. Love the pictures of the ice cream. And the picture of the dad and daughter... just too neat for words and priceless.

    • Thank you, Zakiah. I have written poems through the years, and will probably post some of them, too. But I decided to challenge myself by writing new styles of poetry. Aren't pictures one of the very best ways to capture memories! :-) I heard that Tristen and Shaun had a wonderful time at the dance. I love to see their close relationship!

  • Yes, the ice-cream looks yummy! We went to church but the roads are really hazardous in spots. Seems like they have been that way for a long time.

Loved your writing and pictures. So nice when dad can be home for special occasions! Thanks to him for his service to our country!

    • Yes, Miriam... the snow and ice and extremely cold temps keep coming around this winter. Mike & I made it to the grocery store on Sat., but that evening, the snows came again. We had almost gotten stuck in our driveway, so after more snow ... well, we stayed home again. Yesterday our neighbors cleared our driveway for us, so we should be able to get out the rest of the week if it doesn't snow a bunch more!
It has been so special to see this son & his wife and their children enjoying just living life as a family TOGETHER ... getting to do things that all of us at times tend to take for granted.

  • Good Morning, Carolyn. My dear wife with 58 carb desires loves her ice cream. My Hawaiian doctor says that I should not eat any dairy product. lol Your tradition sounds great.

The grand daughter made me smile--she is so cute. My second daughter went to modeling school and really go into the makeup in a nice way.

Hope you have a nice new week. I see a new dermatologist and then we drive to our daughter's for about a week--again. lol

    • If my husband or mom ever have dairy restrictions ... they would have a problem! His beverage of choice is almost always milk; and they both really love their ice cream. I enjoy both products, but don't mind substitutes.
Our granddaughter enjoys playing around with makeup, but this extreme stuff was for the 80's themed dance -- I really don't remember that much about the 80's (make-up, strange hairdo, etc.) LOL
Your daughters must both be very beautiful women. Is your second daughter still doing modeling?
I hope that all goes well with the appt. with the new dermatologist.
I am sure that you will have a great visit with your daughter. You and your wife really seemed to enjoy the last visit. Have a great week!

  • Seeing all that ice cream was ..... so tempting! Black walnut was always one of my fave flavors in the U.S. Here in Denmark you can get licorice ice cream! It is pretty good! I am sure Tristen and her Dad had a great time at the party!

    • Black walnut is Mom's fave (besides the butter pecan); I like her butter pecan ice cream better. Vanilla is probably my personal favorite simply because it is so versatile, and one can add whatever to it! Licorice sounds intriguing! I'd be willing to try it out (I'm usually willing to try anything once. lol Yes, Tristen and Daddy had a good time together making memories! :-)

  • Val is a talented poet!
    I enjoy reading Xanga poets!
    :-)

Your echo poem is great! :-)

Ice cream sounds and looks wonderful, even on this cold day! :-)

Yay for the 80's dance! Your granddaughter looks so cute! :-)

Please thank Shaun for his service! I sure do appreciate him and all of our military!

    HUGS!!! :-)

    • Yes, Val is a talented poet, and Zakiah, and ... yes, I too enjoy reading Xangan poets ... like YOU, too! :-) I'm glad you enjoyed my effort at "echo" poetry.
Funny how ice cream is always liked -- no matter how cold it is outside!
That and Mom's ice cold drinks! Usually after I serve her water and ice cream, she has to warm up my hands with hers! :-D
I will pass on your thanks to Shaun. Yes, I also appreciate our service people SO much! :-)

  • I like the poem.

All that ice cream would make me fat. I do love it though.

    • Thanks. It is fattening. I've been trying to have
less fattening alternatives available for myself
at least (& anyone else who wants them). Tonight
my husband and I ate some fruit & yogurt instead.
