  • Two years ago today . . .

    2012-02-081

I am not upset that my Dad is no longer with us.  I do miss him, and he is always in my heart. However, he is in a much better place now -- in Heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  No more pain, sickness, problems, sin! And someday, we are looking forward to seeing him again when we join him there!

This photo was taken a little over one year before he died.  Mom and Dad were always big "Peanuts" fans, and collected memorabilia. (Thus passing on that love to their offspring!)

  • I believe I know just how you feel. I feel the same way about my mom. Love you!

  • My died died when I was 13--he was 71. I still miss him. He was a great dad.

I am glad you have great memories of him. Yes, heaven is the place to be. 80 years on this planet, despite the good life that I have had, is not where I want to live permanently.

    • Oh Frank. He died so early in your life. It must have been hard for you as a
young teen to lose your dad so early in your life!
Yes, I have many great memories of him. Sometime I will do a blog on some of
      those memories.
I agree with you, Frank. Heaven is our real home!
      Blessings to you and Norma.

  • I lost daddy in 1995 and my husband reminds me of my dad. Isn't that funny that you notice your loved one in someone you picked.

  • You have a deep faith, Carolyn but the separation always is cruel. On the photo your parents looked so happy. But yes we have faith in Jesus
    Love

  • I went to Facebook what is exceptional . Of course I agree you suscribe to the group Xanga alumni where I am ( but this is someone who put me there ).
I use Facebook from time to time when I want to thank for a comment or answer to a e.card ( since my computer crashed some times ago and I lost my address list ). But I can only use "message" ,. I wanted to write a commentb below your latest writing , I did it but I did not find the button submit . So I sent you a Facebook message !!! :-)
    Love
    Michel

  • Your mom and dad look so happy in that picture. I'm glad you know where he is. Someday we'll all be there together. P.S. We like Peanuts too.

    • Yes, Gracia, Mom and Dad were very happy together: best friends, lovers, co-servants together throughout their marriage of 65 years (minus 5 months... Dad had really hoped to make it to that anniversary, but it wasn't to be). It does make it so great to know that Dad is in Heaven!
You can't go wrong with the Peanuts Gang! :-) ata_grandma.Xanga.com

  • Aw, how sweet. I'm a big Peanuts fan too.

  • ((Hugs)) to you, my friend!! We also miss Mom Betty and O.P. Smith ... memories are are full of sweet times together, but we know they are in a more glorious place, and yes, pain free! We will always hold them in our thoughts and hearts, knowing that, soon, we'll be together again! Stay warm, Carolyn ... it looks like we're in for a very cold few days this week ... yes, the 'cold' is on!!

    P.S. you know I'm a Peanuts fan, myself! :)

    • That is one of the things that is special with Mom being here with us, Debi.
We are able to share memories special to us about Dad on a daily basis, and
not just on the anniversaries. I know that you have some very special
memories of Mom Betty & O.P. Smith. I remember when you used to share on Xanga,
some of those times that you had together with them.
Yes, I have been noticing these unbelievably crazy low temps last week, and
they are to continue through this week as well. Keep cozy, Debi!
And no, I didn't know that we had Peanuts in common (along with all of the
other many things that we have in common)!

  • P. S. I'm noticing that others here, who have commented, have a 'link' attached to their site name ... I'm wondering why mine doesn't! Maybe that's why I don't have many 'friends' finding me here! :( I may have had it set to 'private' friends only back on the old Xanga site, and if so, I don't know who to change it here! *sigh ....

    • I am the one putting that link there. I got the idea from another Xanga user.
Let me know if you get a notification that you have a comment from me.
Otherwise, there is no way of knowing when someone comments back to you on
their site. I just have to go over to their site to see if there is a response
      to my comments I've made.
Xanga (new one) doesn't have a lot of the features of the old Xanga as far as I
can tell, and most of us are just learning by trial & error, and by sharing what
      we learn with each other.

  • I am an ardent peanuts fan too. Your parents look so happy with their t-shirts. I am glad you have this picture. I know you have such beautiful memories of your father. love and hugs.

  • Carolyn, first, it must be so special to have your mom sharing those memories on a daily basis! I remember Mom Betty sharing things from her past like it was yesterday, when she was with us ... I do miss those days!

Now about the links ... I didn't mean the links that are on the replies that you made ... what I mean, for instance, like the one from Cindy above ... where it has the date she wrote it, and her name SingingMom ... it's in black print and I can't click on that name like I can yours, which is blue, along with all the other names here ... only my name is like Cindy's ... it's black print and not linked. :( Wish I could figure this out!

And no, I did not get any notice of these replies from you! I just thought I'd drop back by to see if maybe you had replied here, and I'm glad I did! Over on my new WordPress site, up in the top right by my name, there is a little square that's highlighted whenever I have a comment on any of my posts. They don't offer that feature here, apparently. :( Well, at least I''m glad I stopped by again ... now you'll have to let me know if you saw this, too! lol!! Blessings to you, my friend! - Debi

    • 1. YES! RE: both my mom and Mom Betty!
      2. I have read through all of your comments now, and know that you found the answer re: the links... you are so smart and clever!!
      3. I always could read anybody's comments on my blogs, even if they had the same problem as you had.
      4. I will still respond to all of your comments! ;-)

  • Hmmm, I'm wondering if it's because I'm not a Lifetime member!!

  • I found the answer about the 'links'!! Yay!! Here's what you do if you have no link to your name:

"If you notice that names in comments are no longer clickable and the avatars lead to a ‘not found’ page, do this: Top right, of your screen where your cute lil avatar is, chose Edit Profile. Scroll through and look for the space next to Website. Add in your xanga address (eg. http://myname.xanga.com) and this make it so that your name becomes a clickable link. It still does not work with your avatar image however.
Try this! It worked for me!

IMPORTANT: At first, this did not work for me because I had underscores in my user name. When I changed the underscores to dashes, it started working! Yay!!"
