  • SCHOOL DAYS APPROACHING QUICKLY!

HAPPY #BIRTHDAY, TO MY NEWEST XANGA FRIEND, @carpe_diem99! She is a new teacher, and I'm impressed by her quickness, her creativity, and her care for her students!

It is nice to be able to encourage her, while not having to think about having to teach again myself! Many home-schooled students have already begun their new school year, and the public and private schools are getting ready to start up in another week or two, and so my retirement is starting to feel real now!  laughing

So what do I do now?

    1. I've tried out some new recipes -- several -- that I've gotten from Facebook, Xanga, Pinterest, the Food Channel, and other on-line sources. I'd never heard of Quinoa until watching "Chopped" -- and decided to try it out. I like it! Here it is with a stir-fried veggie, with pan-fried flounder.

I've also tried some other new recipes, but this was actually a new food for me.

    2. I have been enjoying getting together with folks as I mentioned in the last post. I've gotten together with my brother a couple of times, and he joined us for a Famous Recipe Chicken meal one of those times.

    3. Last night Mike and I attended a concert by one of the young women in our church. She teaches piano at a local university, and sings, writes music, and also plays flute. She also has a real heart for God and for the needs of youth. She and her brother, our worship minister at our church (seen at the piano, and also those are his children in the one picture) provided a benefit concert for a local youth ministry. It was a nice turnout, and a nice benefit to the group, too! We're so proud of her, and love her heart for the Lord and for others.

    3. This morning at church there was a "Ladies' Craft Day" ... which was simply an opportunity for whomever could do so, to come to the church and share a morning snack and some conversation while working on handwork, or playing a game, etc. It was enjoyable, and I worked a little on cross-stitch, a little on correspondence, and I played a game of Scrabble with one of the ladies there. ~~ Here is what I took to share with the ladies, minus a few. My family will be enjoying some sweets!

Well, that's it for this time. Have a great Sunday  . . .                                   and rest of the week, too!

  • My grandkids start school Tues. It seems way too soon to me.

  • @ata_grandma -  I'd agree with you, Gracia. I had gotten to the place that I moved my starting time with my private student to after Labor Day.

  • I'm so glad you're enjoying yourself, and trying new things!!! It makes life fun and interesting! I'm also glad you have someone you can encourage!!!

  • @cool_mamacita -  You're so right, about trying out new things! And I've done even more ... and plan to do more yet. And you are also right that it is a good thing to be able to encourage others ... it helps our own heart to feel better, too! Thank you for your encouragement!

  • I love your church---Sounds wonderful. We moved 20 times in 40 years and always attended a local church. It was exciting. I heard an old gun sing at a Missionary Conference once in Michigan. He did not look like much, but we he sang the missionaries started crying and finally most of the audience was in tears--He so touched our hearts with the love of God in his solo. That is a rare gift.I recall the kids starting school. What a day. lol It came and went too quickly.frank

  • I can't believe how early they are starting school these days. We never used to go until after Labor Day. I guess that way they have more days during the year with no school? The doughnuts look good. Can you bring one over for breakfast?

  • Thank you, thank you very much for the birthday wish! You seem to have had a great weekend. I'm extremely sorry that it takes me 2-3 days to reply to your posts every time. I have been extremely busy with school and planning. I'm going to try my best to be quicker from the next time.Have a wonderful day!

  • The retiremment is effective now . It is the time for finding and trying recipes, hearing concert, reunions with other especially at church with the feeling to be free.Enjoy, Carolyn!Love Michel

  • @HUMOR_ME_NOW -  Wow, Frank! That is a lot of moving! I agree with you about local churches... and also about the unique gift that there is when a singer can touch hearts deeply for God! @mcbery -  Miriam, if we were closer I would definitely share doughnuts with you! Guess almost all of the students are now in school... I'm glad that I'm not! @carpe_diem99 -  Please don't ever feel badly about taking awhile to get back with me! You are a teacher, and I know how very busy you are! I hope you did have a lovely birthday! I'll be writing a blog this evening to explain what I've been up to of late, and then be back around to visit some more with you.@fauquet -  Thank you, Michel! I am definitely keeping busy with many things even though I'm no longer teaching.
